Consider yourselves warned! Parasail along the Waikiki shoreline and take in the beautiful views and the surrounding beach activity from a few hundred feet above the ocean. Parasailing Waikiki includes hotel transportation, boat ride, and no experience needed. This is where I first learned how to boogie board in the waves as a kid. I would surf all day until I either got tired or felt the sunburn on my back! We would always start off with a ceremonial jump into the ocean off the end of the Wall which is off limits today and paddle out to the waves.
If you are lucky they will have a showing during your visit. Here are 3 additional Oahu Beaches that are beautiful, full of action, and worth visiting after this one This is my favorite stretch of Hawaii Waikiki Beach! Not only is it off the hotel strip, but it also has a lovely quiet park in between here and the last section of Waikiki Beach.
It is popular among the locals who love to frequent this spot. San Souci Beach is extremely kid and family friendly! Also one of the best spots on this side of the island to snorkel! You will find a nice flat bar of reef that encompasses much of the area with lots of marine life, located about 50 yards into the ocean.
San Souci Beach is also a haven for swimmers, kayakers and surfers who take advantage of a natural ocean channel located on the left hand side of the reef and beach. Basically the last stretch of Waikiki Beach …and very private at that.
There are two ways to access it. One is to walk across the eastern end of San Souci Beach which is mostly reef and old cement wall where there are stairs to take you over onto the small Outrigger Canoe Club beach. I would recommend crossing with caution and reef shoes during low tide! For easier access, walk through the Lotus at Diamond Head Hotel formerly the W Hotel parking lot, and look for a small alley way next to the Colony Surf Hotel, that will lead you to this little known beach.
Today this is not the case, all Oahu beaches are free to the public, and I get to watch my kids enjoy, play and have fun on this Oahu beach! The beautiful thing about Waikiki is that no matter which of the above beach sections you choose, you are bound to have a good time!
Waikiki beach basically lines the hotel skyline and Kapiolani Park. Otherwise the beach sections run into one another, distinct from each other only as the character and ambiance of the beach changes On the northern side of Waikiki, you have a beautiful local acre park that includes a mile long stretch of sand known as Ala Moana Beach Park. On the Southern side of Waikiki Beach , wrapping around Diamond Head, you will discover a secluded narrow long stretch of beach, called Diamond Head Beach.

Oahu Best Beaches South Shore Beaches One of the most well-known beaches on the planet, this 2-mile stretch of white sand and calm turquoise blue ocean fringed by towering high-rises and boutique resorts is located on the South Shore of Oahu.
History of Waikiki The Waikiki area was once a playground for Hawaiian royalty, who enjoyed surfing on longboards in the s. Published by: John C. Waikiki Beach is the perfect place to catch a wave. Waikiki Area Hotels and Resorts.

The homeless, stench of homeless and rampant crime from Micronesian gangs have totally turned me off to this once beautiful pleace.
Waikiki Beach As other reviewers have pointed out, Waikiki Beach is very crowded, etc. My best advice is to do your research before you go and figure exactly what you want from your Hawaiian vacation. We wanted to be able to enjoy the beach some, but mostly we wanted to do lots of sightseeing all over the island.. If you want to spend lots of time and totally relax on a beach on Oahu - head to the other side of the island to Kualoa Beach or up to the North Shore to Sunset Beach, etc. If you want what we did - to relax on beach for a an hour or two a few times during your stay - Waikiki is a great place.
We enjoyed being just a block off the beach and being able to have plenty of places to choose from for our evening meals, shopping and a quick stroll along the beach at night. We stayed at the Radisson What a great and iconic place!
I heard "book em danno" in my head as soon as I saw it! This is where Hawaii was filmed in the beginning surf scenes! Parking is scarce but if you drive around a bit you will find a space. Saw a Huma Huma triggerfish 6 inches from the shoreline! Great park to eat in or just kick back in the shade and enjoy the beauty! Go earlier in the day and avoid weekends for easiest parking and less crowds!
Oh and the aquarium is right on the beach as well! Brianabulls Miami, FL contributions. I love the beach but less is always more. Waikiki Beach is obviously a top attraction but it comes without all the top attraction drama.
It is simply a beautiful beach with beautiful views. Definitely a must see! Dianne52 Pissouri, Cyprus 64 contributions. Waikiki Beach -Paradise, yes - maybe, it has a beautiful beach and a tropical setting, unfortunately every inch of beach is overcrowded.
This famous beach is only a matter of feet from the extremely busy main road and is overlooked by skyscraper hotels. Not the place to visit for rest and relaxation. The rest of the Island is far more attractive. Hire a car, we went to Thrifty and got a compact - PT Cruiser convertible, and toured the island. Once you have negotiated your way past the airport, the highways are pretty straightforward, H1, H2 and H3.
Head up to North Shore and you would not believe it is the same island. The beaches are all fantastic, the pace is slower and there are no high rises. Hotels around the Island are hard to find, but not impossible, at Waimea, we found the Keiki Beach Bungalows situated right on the beach, but as you would expect, they were full.
We headed further round the island to Kaneohe and were given directions to a small resort tucked away in a superb setting. This smallholding 'Schroders' was banked on Kaneohe Bay that was created by a volcano and has shallow water. Unfortunately it did not have its own beach, but is only a few miles from Kailua Beach Park.
This beach is the one that the locals use at weekends, even then it does not get as crowded as Waikiki, so during the week it is pretty peaceful. We only stayed two nights but were made more than welcome and invited to their Karaoke night, which is a BYOB affair. Bring your own Beer. We were there on one of the days when they have a free boat trip out into the bay, first a stop for snorkelling, all the equipment was provided, then a stop where the water is so shallow you only get your ankles wet.
Kayaks were provided at this stop. So in the end we did find our own Paradise in Paradise. Waikiki Beach - highly overrated! My new husband and I stayed on Waikiki Beach at the Outrigger and were extremely disappointed in the beach.
There was trash all over the place and people on virtually every spot available. The water was also filled with people everywhere.
We could only stand to visit the beach once during our stay despite the fact that we could see it from our room. As someone else mentioned before, Honolulu is nothing more than a city with a beach. We traveled to the other side of the island to Sherwood Forest and were so excited to see hardly anyone there and clean, beautiful white sand beaches. It was much more like what we expected for our honeymoon.
If we ever go back to Oahu we will be staying on the "other" side of the island where the locals are very friendly, the area is clean, hotels are much less expensive and you get a REAL Hawaiian experience. The activities in the water at Waikiki beach are very very dangerous, too many people doing to many things in one area. Swimmers mixed with surfers and huge tour boats and outriggers speeding thru the crowd.
I had a surfer run into my head and ended up at the Straub Hospital for 8 days with my eyesocket fractured in multiple places ,my whole right cheekbone shattered and my jaw broken. I was taking a surfing lesson from the shack by Dukes and the instructor did not see it happen or help me get to shore.
I was left to drown by the person who hit me. The lifeguards told me I was not hurt badly and walked me to the clinic across the street. Since this happened I have investigated the number of drownings in Hawaii every year and it is very frightening. I contacted the director of their Ocean Services and he said the tourism department did not want this info given out to tourists. Your Safety is not as important to Hawaii as your tourism dollars. I'm from L. Maybe that's why I'm not highly critical of Waikiki. If I decide to go down to Redondo Beach here in L. When you grow up around beaches in populated places, you come to expect it. When I visited Waikiki for the first time, I simply expected it, so the crowded aspect of it didn't really bother me. That being said, I don't go to Waikiki to hang out on the beach anyway, I do that on the other side of the island. I visit Honolulu because I love the history, and I love Waikiki for the kitschy aspect of the place.
I don't think I've ever been in the water off Waikiki. I like to walk the beach, take in views of Diamond Head, people watch, and check out the glistening and historic hotels.
